VERACRUZ, MEXICO, 1914

POSTAL ITEMS

 U.S. stamps and stationery were used to pay postage on mail to the United States and foreign destinations.  Mexican stamps were used to pay postage on mail to Mexican destinations.  The existing stamps continued to be used and no special new issues were required.  Mail sent from Veracruz during the intervention is normally identified by the cancellation.

REVENUE STAMPS FOR THE U.S. INTERVENTION IN VERACRUZ

Mexico Renta Interior stamps of 1913-14 overprinted "GOV. U.S.A."   and "VERACRUZ" in purple, blue or black reading up or down, rouletted, perforated or in combination.  The stamps were sold with 2 parts. Used stamps may have been cancelled whole on document or with one part on an invoice and the lower part (talon)  on the business receipt book.  Some stamps were also overprinted "BEBIDAS IMPORTADAS" to pay taxes on imported beverages.
